Emma Jane Hearn Filer, 89, of Bluefield, WV, and formerly of Covington, died Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Mercer Health Center in Bluefield. She was born July 22, 1937, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Edwin Thompson Hearn and Una Rachel Beckum. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Filer, Sr. Jane worked as a registered nurse for many years, including at Alleghany Regional Hospital and Boiling Springs Elementary School. She was a member of Calvary Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Electa Chapter #33 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Roanoke, and the Anata Shrine Guild in Clifton Forge. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, George Filer, Jr. and Regina of Bluefield; her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Gratten Hepler of Covington; five grandchildren, Delbert Gratten Hepler III and his wife, Lindsey, of Charlottesville, George Benjamin Hepler and his wife, Kaeleigh, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brian Filer and his wife, Zephyr of Chattanooga, TN, Keith Filer and his wife, Brandi, of Bluefield, WV and Mark Filer and his wife, Delyn, of Knoxville, Tennessee; seven beloved great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Talon, and Dawson of Bluefield, WV, Anna and Madalyn of Charlottesville, VA and Ryan and Amelia of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rosalie Doty, Betty Filer, Charles and Jean Filer, and Lois and Marvin Lewis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. In keeping with her wishes, Jane’s body has been cremated. A graveside service will be held on September 23, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, VA with the Rev.
